Dispatcher - Same Day Courier Service

Courier Connection is seeking a full-time dispatcher to join our operations team in Atlanta.

This position is responsible for ensuring that contract drivers are dispatched to each pick-up and delivery destination within an agreed upon schedule.   It is important that the individual can handle multiple tasks simultaneously and accurately recall and document appropriate information in the dispatch system. This position may alternate between dispatching and customer service duties based on daily business requirements.  This position will involve contact with contract drivers (owner/operators) and with customers daily.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assign drivers shipments and monitor driver activity to best meet specified pick up and delivery schedule.
  • Real Time follow-up with contract drivers on all pickups and deliveries. While in transit, follow up with the driver to gain insight into arrival times.
  • Manage driver and delivery related issues.
  • Re-route drivers as needed to ensure on-time pick-up and delivery.
  • Stay updated with contract driver on duty/off duty out status.
  • Communicate via phone and dispatch software as needed with drivers to ensure that customer expectations are achieved.
  • Responsible for executing delivery instructions based upon appointment schedule required by customer.
  • Maintain proficiency in using computer tools, driver tracking tools and other common office equipment and software.
  • Fill out and complete the transfer sheet as needed.
  • Manage problems related to customer information errors, i.e. wrong zip code, incorrect phone numbers, wrong delivery or pickup time, etc.
  • Respond to drivers who experience shipment discrepancies i.e. order says 4 boxes to pick-up and when driver arrives there are 7 boxes.
  • Update customers regarding estimated delivery or pick-up time (ETA) or notification of late pick-up or delivery
  • Provide timely customer service problem resolution, complete customer review for all late deliveries or outstanding issues.
  • Provide directions and maintain constant communication with drivers. Be available as a resource for drivers to answer any questions they may arise. Proactively inform them of traffic issues and other obstacles that may interfere with their ability to provide the requested service.
  • Maintain BOL, paperwork, collect POD’s and Manifests as required for assigned shift.
  • Take inbound calls as necessary, route call internally to sales, billing, or other internal staff.
  • Other duties as assigned.
